Staatsoper Hamburg Debut

Ms. Grigorian makes another house debut this season, this time in Germany at the Staatsoper Hamburg where she performs the prominent title-role in Strauss’ Salome. A role which brought the soprano to “world fame” (Neue Zürcher Zeitung), Ms. Grigorian has received much recognition in her interpretation of Salome. Merkur claimed: “Asmik Grigorian must have appeared in Richard Strauss' dreams when he conceived his world success... Fragility, uncompromising, a harsh, borderline beauty, a control despite all extremes, a sheer superhuman will to create, all this emerges from her singing and her acting.” This new production by Dmitri Tcherniakov skillfully captures the dark and theatrical essence derived from Oscar Wilde's work and translated into music by Strauss. It encapsulates a turbulent narrative that follows the protagonist's futile struggle to escape the decadence of her life, eventually leading to her demise. Under the baton of Maestro Kent Nagano, Ms. Grigorian shares the stage with John Daszak as Herodes, Violeta Urmana as Herodias and Kyle Ketelsen as Jochanaan.

Performances take place on October 29th; Nov 1st, 8th, 12th, and 15th. Tickets and more information can be found here.

The premiere will be broadcast on ARTE TV and is available to stream here until April 2024.
